Nonabelian plasma instabilities

Quark-gluon matter as produced in the early stages of an ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collison has strong momentum space anisotropies. Even at arbitrarily weak coupling this leads to nonperturbative phenomena in the form of nonabelian plasma instabilities. Their dynamics will be discussed within the framework of the hard-loop effective theory, both for a stationary anisotropic plasma and an anisotropically expanding one.
