Simulating Dense Matter

Hands, S (Wales, Swansea)
Wednesday 25 July 2007, 11:00-12:00

Seminar Room 1, Newton Institute

In this talk I will outline motivations for performing non-perturbative lattice simulations of QCD at non-zero baryon charge density, and then review the notorious "Sign Problem" which to date has made this programme unfeasible. Some speculations of th ephysical role of the sign fluctuations in differing regions of the QCD phase diagram are made. Finally, I present results from orthodox simulations of QCD with gauge group SU(2), showing preliminary evidence for a deconfined but strongly interacting quark matter phase at large baryon chemical potential.
