Period-doubling bifurcations of spiral waves

Abstract

Motivated by experimental observations in light-sensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction and subsequent numerical work by Kapral, we discuss period-doubling bifurcations of spiral waves. We report on explanations of this phenomenon that involve the computation of spectra, and of the associated eigenfunctions, of spirals on bounded and unbounded domains.
