Trapping of Rossby waves in the equatorial betaplane model
Seminar Room 1, Newton Institute
AbstractIn this talk we shall report on joint works with Christophe Cheverry, Thierry Paul and Laure Saint-Raymond in which we study an equatorial shallow water system under the betaplane approximation. We prove that in some asymptotic regimes, Rossby waves are trapped around the equator while Poincaré waves disperse. This involves the use of microlocal techniques related to semiclassical analysis, such as Mourre estimates, and some ODE methods.
If it doesn't, something may have gone wrong with our embedded player.
We'll get it fixed as soon as possible.
