AbstractA system satisfy a logarithm law if the time which is needed to hit a small target scales as the inverse of the measure of the target. This kind of laws, related to the occurrence of a rare event are also related to the arithmetical properties and to the speed of mixing of the system. I will present a short introduction to the subject and show how a general statement about the speed of convergence to equilibrium for systems with contracting fibers can be applied to deduce the logarithm law for a class of singular hyperbolic flows.
