Progress in analysis of equations for almost axisymmetric flow

Presenter: Mike Cullen (Met Office, Exeter, UK)

Abstract

This poster describes how two problems in almost axisymmetric flow can be formulated as optimal transport problems. The problems are the development of non-axisymmetric structure in tropical cyclones, and the nonlinear equations for tropical waves. Recent results by Marc Sedjro have shown that the optimal transport problem for tropical cyclones can be solved rigorously.
