Characterisation and axiomatisation of finite soluble groups

Abstract

Ever since the result of Philip Hall characterizing solubility for finite groups in terms of arithmetical statements about orders of subgroups, there has been interest in finding properties that distinguish the finite groups that are soluble from those that are not. I will discuss three such properties in the lecture.
