Nonlinear Cross-Diffusion Models for Size Exclusion

AbstractIn this talk we discuss nonlinear cross-diffusion models arising from size exclusion effects in biological processes with heterogeneous species. We discuss the macoscopic modeling and basic issues in the analysis of the arising systems of partial differential equations, which is a challenging task due to degeneracy and absence of maximum principles. Moreover we present applications to ion transport in channels, cell migration, and swarm models.
