Simple Model for Particle Size Segregation in Granular Avalanches.
Abstract: In this talk a simple continuum model for segregation in granular avalanches will be formulated, using the framework of Mixture theory. Analytical solutions will be derived for two steady-state problems, and fully time-dependent numerical solutions will also be presented. Finally the model will be used to investigate the problem of steady flow from a hopper. These results will be compared to the laboratory work of Savage-Lun. The results quantitatively agree in all cases tested.
