This one-day meeting is being held as part of the September-December 2003 INI research programme on Granular and Particle-Laden Flows (GPF). The meeting focuses on mechanical interactions between densely packed granular materials and an infiltrating pore fluid, including phenomena such as poroelasticity, inelastic dilatancy or compaction, shear heating, thermal pressurisation, and melting. The topic is explored in contexts including landslides and debris flows, soil liquefaction, rupture of earthquake fault gouge, and particle-entraining seepage flows.
