The relationship between optimal designs for microarray and paired comparison experiments

Commonly used models for the logarithm of the intensity ratio in two-color microarray experiments are equivalent to linear paired comparison models. By using this relationship it is demonstrated how optimal designs for microarray experiments involving factorial treatments can be adapted from multi-factor paired comparison experiments (Gra▀hoff et al., 2003, 2004). We consider models where the influence of the treatment factors is described by main effects only as well as models involving all first-order interactions.
